Fall Break

Logan and Lucas had spent several hours using the skim board.  Logan was getting pretty good at it and able to go a little ways on it.  We were just about to head back to the room after spending the whole day on the beach as Landon and I were relaxing in our beach chairs watching the boys play.  I just had the thought of how perfect a day it had been.  I love watching our boys play together and seeing them laughing and having fun together was just one of those kind of days you'd like to freeze.  Logan was on the skim board and I was watching him.  He fell and I had no idea of what would actually happen because of the fall.  As he was on the skim board he said his left foot sunk down in the sand like quick sand.  As a wave came, it knocked him over, and he ended up breaking both his tibia and fibula.  It also dislocated his ankle and broke his pinky toe.  I stood there in shock as he yelled and said it was broken.  Landon went and picked him up and we set up chairs for him to prop up his leg until we could get him some help.  We called 911 because we were all alone on the beach and there was no way to stabilize his leg for the length of the trip that it would require.  It ended up being a horrific trip and one that we won't forget.  We were thankful that right after the accident a family came out on the beach.  I asked them to help us carry all of our stuff back to the room.  I wasn't supposed to lift anything due to my back surgery and it was only Lane and Lucas making trips.  It was such a perfectly timed encounter with this family to come out on the beach at that exact time.  They were helpful and it was a reminder to me that God is in the midst of difficult circumstances even in little things.

We were thirty minutes from the nearest hospital, so the trip seemed like forever.  Logan said that he began hurting while in the ambulance since it was bumpy.  We followed the ambulance to the hospital and I prayed on the way that we would be arriving at a good hospital that had wonderful care.  God answered that prayer and we ended up having great care all the way around there.

This injury definitely impacted his season playing for Daniel 1.  The messages he received from his coaches made me cry.  We are thankful to be a part of this family and look forward to his return.
